GT Cup Championship
08 May 2010
Thruxton
A host of famous supercars including Ferraris, Porsches, TVRs and KTMs will take to the track this Saturday (8 May) as the GT Cup Championship and MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) make their debut at the super-quick Thruxton circuit.
The MSVR-run GT Cup Championship is designed for drivers with a passion for racing but who earn their living outside of the world of motorsport, and the series provides some of the closest club level sports car racing in the UK. This weekend will feature a capacity grid of more than 35 cars competing in two 25 minute races.
The fast, technically demanding Thruxton circuit will present a huge challenge to all competitors on Saturday, and among the front-runners hoping for a strong result will be the Group One Ferrari of Jeff Leadley and the Porsche 997s of Andy Ruhan and Alex Martin. 17-year-old Danny Winstanley could also be a contender for victory in his lurid green TVR Tuscan.
Vehicles to watch out for in the other categories include the Group Two Ferrari 360 of Marco Pullen, whilst David Hathaway's Ferrari 360 Challenge and Adrian Watt's BMW M3 E36 lie equal at the top of the standings in Group Three.
As well as two GT Cup Championship races, there will also be action from an eclectic mix of machinery, including the Monoposto Championship for a wide range of single seaters including Formula Fords, Formula Renaults and Dallara F3 cars.
Other MSVR series competing include capacity grids from the Toyo Tires Racing Saloons, and GAZ Shocks Production BMW Championship. The Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge will also be providing classic muscle car action to the event.
