Silverstone 200 supporting the British Grand Prix
New to the 2012 British Motorcycle Grand Prix will be a supporting race open to a wide variety of teams and riders with a large amount of quality track time in front of the biggest audience of the year.
The Silverstone 200 will consist of two (World Championship length) 100 kilometre races around the breathtaking 3.6 miles Grand Prix circuit shortly after Stoner, Rossi, Lorenzo and co. have taken their new 1000cc MotoGP bikes to the limits.
Variety will be the spice of the Silverstone 200 with an open capacity eligibility of 600 to 1200cc machines making this special race and the highly sought after track time open to teams and riders competing in British, National or International Championships at Superbike, Supersport or Superstock 1000 level.
Being outside of the constraints of championship regulations means essentially its anything goes within the parameters of the bike capacity limits and the wide open expanses of the Silverstone GP circuit allows the circuit to be licensed to start 44 competitors.
The Silverstone 200 races will be preceded by free practice and all important qualifying on Friday with the first 16 laps 100km race getting the start signal straight after GP activities on Saturday afternoon.
As in BSB the fastest lap times recorded in leg 1 will set the grid for leg 2. The second 100km race will set off immediately after the GP races have been concluded on Sunday.
As the race title implies the overall winner will receive the inaugural Silverstone 200 Trophy.
Silverstone 200 teams and riders will be exclusively based in the heritage pit garages and paddock complex between Woodcote and Copse corners as well as utilising the start/finish line in this area.
