New GT Cup Series is Launched


The launch event for the new GT Cup Series took place at the Haynes International Motor Museum on Sunday 27th January. Over 100 people attended which included potential drivers, team owners and sponsors. Also present were representatives from official series tyre supplier Dunlop and the preferred fuel supplier Sunoco Race Fuels.

Guests enjoyed a roast beef lunch and a very entertaining after-lunch speech by Stuart Turner, who's enjoyed an illustrious career in the motor sport industry and is now a trustee of the Motorsport Safety Fund.

GT Cup Officials were introduced to the guests followed by a presentation and a promotional film, showing footage from the successful inaugural race at Snetterton last year. Gemma Scott, who will be presenting highlights of the GT Cup races on Motors TV, was also there to introduce herself and meet the guests.

Marc Haynes, founder of the GT Cup, was delighted with the launch. He said: "Today has gone really well and we now have over 40 drivers registered. We have a great grid taking shape with Ferrari, Porsche, TVR, BMW, Ginetta, Marcos and Lotus all being represented."

Haynes also mentioned that teams have showed great interest in the series "We do also have prominent teams entering with customer drives including ABG, in2racing, Fiorano Ferrari, RPM, Team Nero and M Tech."
