Tristan Vautier takes commanding win

Frenchman extends championship lead at Snetterton

Tristan Vautier took his second Formula Palmer Audi win of the weekend in dominant fashion at Snetterton today (Sunday).

Pole sitter Richard Plant got a great start and was able to hold off Vautier on the run down to Riches Corner for the first time. Plant then ruined his good work by spinning at the Esses on the opening lap. With both Plant and Vautier being the quickest drivers all weekend, the Englishman's mistake handed Vautier a lead that would never be challenged. Whilst Plant recovered at the tail end of the field, championship leader Vautier pulled away from the pack - eventually winning by more than six seconds. "I had to work really hard to get a good gap," said Vautier. "It has been a great weekend for me, but I know there is a long way to go in this championship and I will have to keep pushing."

Kazim Vasiliauskas held on to take second but was pressured home in the latter stages by Maxime Jousse. The Frenchman made stellar moves past Paul Rees and Kenny Andrews, before setting about attacking Vasiliauskas for second, but the Lithuanian defended well, and Jousse had to settle for his maiden podium in FPA. "It has been a great day for France!" said Jousse. "I am pleased to be here on the podium with my friend and fellow countryman Tristan Vautier. I am really happy with my performance, particularly as I have never driven the circuit before."

There was a frenetic battle for fourth place with seven cars separated by little over two seconds after five laps. Emma Kimilainen was the first to make her move, passing Adam Foster for the position. Foster's pace improved as the race wore on however, and he re-passed Kimilainen on the inside at Riches Corner on lap 15. It was an aggressive yet impressive move by Foster and Kenny Andrews also tried the same manoeuvre on Kimilainen a lap later. Foster eventually took fourth, whilst Kimilainen kept Andrews at bay to secure fifth.

Paul Rees held third in the early laps, but he was muscled down to seventh at the finish after suffering gearbox problems. Ashley Babbra passed Jose Alonso Liste on the final lap to clinch eighth, whilst Philipp Frommenwiler rounded out the top ten.

All 20 cars finished the 18 lap race, with Richard Plant recovering to take 12th after his earlier spin.
